Heart of the Art: Underneath

The Inspiration

I once heard character described as this: “Character is who you are, when no one is looking.” There’s a difference between reputation, the you that everyone sees on surface level, and character, which is who you are underneath the person everyone sees. For a lot of people, their character doesn’t garner a lot of respect or recognition, so they make up for it by putting on a personality or face that fits better to their environment. God’s words found in 1 Samuel 16:7 ring true for us today: “God does not see the same way people see. People look at the outside of a person, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Don’t be afraid of who you are deep down; be open, be yourself, because God made you the way you are on purpose.

The Breakdown

This photo from Unsplash could have gone a number of ways; straight Mextures edit, using shapes or fragments, some type of collage. What ended up happening was an experimental edit where the photo was flipped upside down and processed through Reflect; then the edit was flipped back to give the illusion of the landscape being underwater. Color grading was done in Mextures to try and get that underwater feel; not gonna lie, pretty satisfied with the results.
